Data Officer

As Assistant Data Scientist, you will play an important role within the Research & Operational Support (ROpS) department helping to deliver a new five-year strategy by providing accurate data entry, maintaining consistency and accuracy within Animal Welfare data workflows and providing GIS mapping.

Position: Assistant Data Scientist

Location: Devon/hybrid – the working pattern for this role will combine both onsite and home working from home under our guiding principles for such roles, with onsite attendance currently estimated to be 2-3 days per week

Salary: £25,361 per annum

Hours: Full-time

Contract: 2-year, fixed term contract starting as soon as possible

The Role

You will be part of a creative, collaborative and dedicated department and will have the opportunity to work on projects sanctuary wide (including research, vets, sanctuaries and welfare). To help achieve the charity’s goals you will help maintain the operational data store through the complete data cycle (data collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination). You will also provide capacity building to UK staff and programme collaborators through delivering workshops and online tutorials. In addition to supporting the existing data collection framework.

Your principal duties and responsibilities within this multifunctional and rewarding role will include:

Supporting the ongoing use of the Animal Welfare System (AMS), including resolving user problems and software errors, and preparing learning materials.
Ensuring that all data is stored and disseminated in a way that conforms to compliance and GDPR regulations.
Carrying out data quality assurance and data quality control processes to maintain data integrity.
Assisting with extracting, transforming and loading data using SQL, Python or R.
Efficiently extracting and disseminating important information required for immediate action.
Acting as an ambassador for excellence in data quality assurance of donkey focused information.
Assisting with improvements in data collection, validation, consolidation, extraction and reporting, and with investigating new ways of implementing quality control workflows.

About You

With an interest in learning new technologies and integrating these with existing workflows, you will have experience of data quality assurance. You will have excellent planning and communication skills including being responsive to requests and adept at flexing communication style to different individuals. Your ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail whilst dealing with a number of conflicting priorities and timescales will also support you in this role.
