Crime Case Builder – Leicester – Temp

We are recruiting for Case Builders for a law enforcement organisation that protects the public from crime and disorder in the East Midlands area. The main responsibility for the Case Builders will be to undertake case preparation work and quality control within the Criminal Justice Team.

Main Responsibilities

Review files submitted for consideration of summons/requisition procedures and make decisions upon the disposal of these files taking into account diversion options, the evidential and public interest tests set out in the Code for Crown Prosecutors and the Director's Guidance on Charging.
Review files submitted by officers and ensure they are prepared to the correct standard in line with National File Standard and Manual of Guidance.
Review documents and statements to ensure sensitive material is identified and removed. Submit to CPS with correct naming conventions applied and within timescales.
Applying professional knowledge and decision making to rate/rank the quality and timeliness of files received from officers
Where items are missing in files, request completion by OIC within agreed timescales
Ensure relevant items (e.g., CCTV where necessary) are correctly attached to file before Submission Action CPS memos and requests for additional items.
This will include generating requests to Officers/Investigators for additional statements/information as appropriate (for example medical/CSI statements)
To act as point of contact for allocated files, liaising with other unit/Force members and partnership agencies addressing enquiries of both a general and technical nature
Manage your own workload and escalate issues effectively in support of effective case
Conduct enquiries on the PNC, providing printouts of previous convictions for all prosecution files in accordance with national guidelines
Watching CCTV and BWV to ensure it is viewable, playable, and relevant (i.e., not blank); copying of CCTV/BWV.
Where required, to redact unused material including crime reports, incident logs and custody records.

Essential Requirements

Demonstrate an awareness of the Criminal Justice system including the role of the police, CPS and Courts
Demonstrate the ability to carry out research to identify relevant facts that are not immediately available.
Must have proven experience of data entry and extracting data for reports and using various computer systems including word and Excel
