UKAS Calibration Manager

Are you a senior member of a calibration team with ISO 17025 experience and yearning a new challenge with career progression to management?

Our UK Calibration team require a proactive and experienced engineer to join their busy Maidstone in Kent facility, with the successful candidate already performing ISO 17025 calibrations in their current role and a desire to progress and become a key influencer in a commercial lab with 3 nationwide calibration centres.

Requirements and skills needed to be able to carry out the role:

1. Crystal Reports design for reports and certificates.

2. Use of Transmille software and migration to Metcal & Indysoft for UKAS work

3. CAD Drawing for procedures

4. Understand specification and datasheets for writing of procedures.

5. ISO(phone number removed) understanding and the implications of decision rules and contract review prior to work being carried out.

6. Understanding of Test Uncertainty Ratios and the suitability to decide if a calibration can be carried out based on current schedule of Accreditation.

7. Able to be interviewed and be confident technically to be accessed by UKAS prior to them being approved to run the laboratory.

8. Be able to demonstrate calibration of precision devices, such as calibrators, long scale DMM’s and resistors working confidently to 1ppm and less.

9. Demonstrate understanding of M3003 and construction and maintenance of budgets to be used for CMC on schedules.

10. Expanding the existing scope and thinking outside the box.

11. Periodic onsite calibrations and group site visits.

Qualifications for the role are:

1. Measurement experience gained in the DC and LF area and preferably pressure and temperature accredited knowledge, gained as Head of Laboratory or deputy.

2. Educated to degree, HND level or similar.

3. Completed training courses available from UKAS or other accredited institutions.

Overall responsibility and running of the UKAS Laboratory, Technical & Quality

Recruit calibration and quality staff, as necessary when workload increases

Review certificates of calibration and authorize.

Maintaining the Quality System and Quality Manual

Producing and updating the measurement budgets ensuring the Calibration and Measurement Capability (CMC) are kept up to date and informing UKAS of any deviations with a copy of the relevant budget.

Applying for additions to the Scope of Accreditation.

Maintain measurement procedures.

Review staff capabilities through use of audit standards.

Identify staff training, annual training goals and advise QM to arrange.

Carry out internal training with staff, as necessary.

Approval of software packages used for UKAS work. This includes validation of calibration procedures and auto uncertainty calculators.

Liaise directly with UKAS and customers, as necessary.

Review the annual review, internal audits, and surveillance visits, applying any improvement actions required and checking their effectiveness in association with the Quality Manager.

Constantly review risks and opportunities for the business.
