METER READER

This is a permanent position working flexible hours from 8am – 8pm – Monday to Saturday, 40 hours a week.

PAY RATE – £23,000 – £24,000 OTE
LOCATION – Edinburgh
HOURS – 40 hour week

WORKS VEHICLE AND FUEL CARD PROVIDED

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To visit customers' properties to accurately collect utility meter readings from homes and businesses.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY / TASKS

* Accurately collect meter, customer, property and associated data in accordance with business processes, and Regulator standards.
* Operate Meter Reading equipment in accordance with business processes.
* Major customer liaison role which involves meeting with customers face to face.
* The vast majority of visits will be un-appointed which means that the Data Collector can plan his/her own working hours.
* If any appointed visits are required the Data Collector must visit in accordance with business processes and Regulatory standards.
* Escalate customer issues in accordance with agreed business processes.
* Ensure that key performance indicators are met.
* Ensure that Company Health & Safety policies and procedures are correctly applied and report all significant hazards, near misses and accidents through our business processes ( AIRline etc).
* Ensure that all equipment and protective clothing is used appropriately

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

* Valid Driving Licence suitable for use in the UK with no more than 3 current penalty points.
* Satisfactory police checks to prove no unacceptable risk to the general public, customers or fellow workers.
* Successful applicants will have to satisfy Agency eligibility to work in UK checks.

COMPETENCIES
Knowledge & Skills:
* Experience of working in a similar role will be an advantage but not crucial because full training will be provided.
* Good communication and customer service skills
* Excellent planning and organisational skills.
* Ability to accurately record data onto the Company held meter reading equipment
* Must be physically fit i.e. able to climb stairs, bending, lifting and walking etc.
* Excellent eye sight (with glasses if needed) e.g. reading meters in dark conditions with the aid of a torch
* Ability to work alone in accordance with Company Lone Working Policy.
* Must enjoy outdoor work and be prepared to work in all weather conditions

Experience:
* Previous experience of working in a customer facing environment is preferred.
* Experience of achieving targets with minimum supervision.
* Be confident of using equipment, e.g. accurately collecting numerical and written data.
* Enjoy working on their own and as part of a Team.
* Demonstrate self motivation and good customer service skills.
* Excellent planning and organisational skills.
* Flexible attitude to work i.e. willingness to work evenings and weekend to ensure that minimum performance standards are met.
Desirable:
* Previous experience of working in the Utility Industry
* A proven successful track record of achieving daily & monthly performance targets
* Previous experience of high volume data entry work
* Previous experience of physically demanding outdoor work
* Good geographical knowledge of working area.

Transport
* A Company vehicle with fuel card will be provided strictly for business use only. The Data Collector will be responsible for safe parking of the vehicle when it's not in use i.e. overnight, weekends and during holidays etc.
