Job Title: Lead Manufacturing Engineer – projects/design
Hours Mon-Thurs 8.5hrs per day and Fridays 5.5hrs flexible hours to suit: example, Mon-Thurs 8am-4:30pm and Friday 8am-1:30pm.
Salary: up to £35,000 DOE
Contract length: Maternity cover – 12 months
Overview:
Working for a company that manufacture bespoke machinery and products with sites across the UK and Europe, we now require a mechanical design engineer to join the Manufacturing team. This role will be focused towards leading projects, designing of jigs to ease the build process and implementing SOP’s to help aid future machinery build process.
The role:
To lead a team of x4 manufacturing engineers within operations, in order to resolve build quality problems, improve tools, processes and ensure the smooth introduction of project related product changes and new features. To investigate, plan and implement new engineering processes/methods/tooling facilities in conjunction with manufacturing departments.
Responsibilities
• Design and develop equipment and tooling for new products and manufacturing processes.
• Manage the development and improvement of existing tooling and manufacturing equipment.
• Review overall manufacturing processes to reduce cost, optimise efficiency and reduce waste.
• Produce drawings and technical data in support of product development:
o Concept generation of machinery, jigs, assemblies, and tooling.
o Top level GA (general arrangement) design.
o Detailing engineering drawings.
o Creating engineering bills of materials.
o Engineering data entry to ERP system.
• Manage engineering change control to ensure internal process changes have traceability and completion in line with timing plans.
• Create documents for specifications, capital requests, technical reports etc.
• Ensure the requirements of any design qualification.
• Assist and make recommendations regarding departmental progression and improvement.
• Develop and build relationships with customers, suppliers or contractors.
• Suggest and assist with improvement recommendations for the department or Company.
Implement SOP’s
The ideal Mechanical Design Engineer will have as many of the following in order to strengthen application:
• HNC (minimum) in mechanical engineering or mechanical design.
• Experience of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• 3D CAD modelling experience.
• Ability to produce clearly defined and accurate 3D assemblies.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Good IT and literacy skills.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to follow instructions and processes.
• Strong work ethic, good timekeeping/attendance and a ‘will do’ attitude.
• Enthusiastic with a desire to learn.
• Motivated working alone and as part of a busy team.
• Able to work with stakeholders/customers as appropriate to the role.
