Our client is a team of Engineers, Scientists and Managers whose aim is to create clean, affordable, renewable energy using the power of the ocean. They are one of the leading marine energy technology developers on the market, they have run demonstrations ready for commercialization.

They immediately require a business development manager to assist with their business development activities, and lead certain activities to developing new clients, maintaining existing clients and moving their technology through the sales process to contract award.

The Business Development Manager will assist the Commercial Director implement the commercial strategy, supporting the commercial readiness of their technology.

As Business Development Manager you will play an active role in providing a high-quality service to clients, developing the clients value proposition, maintaining a competitive advantage and increasing the visibility and exposure in the global market with key stakeholders and influencers.

This is a very ambitious company with a high projected growth rate. Their commercial team is forecast to expand to ~30 people within 10 years so huge potential to be part of a very exciting project and help lead/ develop a high calibre team.

Responsibilities

The candidate will have a proven commercial manager track record, and will be responsible for supporting the commercialisation of the technology. Initial focus will be on developing & initiating opportunities with customers. The successful candidate will be a key asset to the team with significant autonomy.

* Assisting the Commercial Director implement the commercial strategy, supporting the commercial readiness of our technology aligned with client needs and deployment timelines.

* Support the identification and prioritization of new clients within the markets we serve and identify new market opportunities.

* Supporting existing client relationships and advancing down selection technology for farm developments. Assist with penetration and technology growth in international markets.

* Responding to developer RFIs and proactively identify opportunities.

* Working closely with the engineering team to gain a deep understanding of the technology in order to speak fluently and incorporate key messages in marketing materials, aligning with the brand and product vision.

* Articulating the value proposition to clients and staying updated with market trends and competitor developments to grow the market leading technology position. Expressing the value their devices bring to clients across their project lifecycle.

* Supporting a wide range of outreach programs by developing innovative and relevant content and representing the company at face to face events.

* Managing and maintaining the internal processes for developing client relationships.

* Identifying the companies growing stakeholder landscape and ensure this growing community is appropriately informed, consulted and advised to help capitalise on market opportunities.

Essential Requirements

* 3+ years business development in the energy / renewables / oil & gas or similar sector.

* Proven track record of generating and converting opportunities into commercial contracts.

* Strong focus on delivering service quality.

* 3+ years’ experience working across commercial, marketing and technology teams.

* Understanding of pre-sales commercial activities and associated steps to deliver first sale.

* Experience with CRM data entry.

* Organised with a strong ability to plan and prioritise under pressure with non-moveable deadlines.

* Multi-tasker with good organisational skills capable of juggling numerous competing priorities.

* Excellent communication skills; ability to present at executive/Board level both internal and externally.

* First class interpersonal, networking and selling skills.

* High level of initiative and ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.

* Ability to travel and undertake overnight stays.

* IT literate. Excellent report writing skills.

* Proficient in English, both spoken and written.

* Eligibility to live and work in the UK.

* Valid UK Driving Licence.

* A genuine interest and passion for addressing the challenges of energy generation at sea.

Desirable

* Experience working in the marine, marine renewables or energy sectors.

* Proficiency in another European language.

* Risk management skills.

* Value selling/ pricing development.
