We have a exciting opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter to be based at either our Birmingham or Manchester offices.

The position will help to ensure the efficient and effective administration of technical information for the team, supporting Underwriters and Senior Underwriters to carefully select and underwrite risks, in a cost effective manner and in accordance with statutory and company requirements/guidelines to ensure profitability and business targets are met.

What you'll be doing

To provide comprehensive underwriting and administration support to the team, including:

Collation & review of underwriting supporting documentation, for new business enquiries and quotation as well as renewals o Liaison with brokers to ensure information received is to the required standard for underwriting & all queries are promptly resolved
Ensuring data supplied to/from TPA's and/or other external service partners, is complete and accurate, by liaison with underwriter, brokers etc as required
Liaising with the service and producing office(s) to ensure UK local policy requirements can be met, for serviced policies
Promptly identifying any issues and raising these with Underwriters/ Senior Underwriters in order to resolve.* To ensure that all underwriting data is recorded promptly and accurately within the requisite underwriting systems/file, including:

Ensuring data to be entered is complete and accurate, by liaison with underwriter; brokers; TPA's; other HDI offices etc as required
Data entry of underwriting forms/documentation including, policy creation, new business premiums, renewal premiums, endorsements, taxes, other deductions, etc
Reviewing data quality as required and ensuring any errors or omissions are corrected promptly, liaising with underwriter, credit control & other teams as appropriate
Maintaining accurate paper and electronic records for auditing and regulatory purposes.
To produce management information and analyses of data to support the team, including both regular and ad hoc reports.
To adhere to the agreed technical accounting processes for premium allocation, exchange rate agreement, tax allocations and, in conjunction with TOPS team, review existing processes regularly and challenge the status quo
To liaise with the Claims team as required to ensure the relevant Director is kept fully appraised of claims developments.
To proactively participate in projects or other initiatives designed to improve the effectiveness or efficiency of the department.
To undertake any other tasks as requested by the Director, in order that the team achieve its objectives.What we are looking for?

A Level or equivalent qualifications; CII qualified at certificate level/ part qualified at diploma level or equivalent experience.
Good systems knowledge, experience of using various company bespoke systems to interrogate data
Good understanding of insurance and the terminologies used, across all lines of business.
Good technical understanding about underwriting policy construction; able to read underwriting files and understand what data needs to be recorded
Good communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable with phone & face to face discussions with underwriters, brokers & other technical colleagues.
Able to organise own workload effectively to meet service standards
Deadline focused; able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
Competent user of Excel & Word
